From 1967-70 and 1975-81, he taught at Mennonite Brethren Bible College and College of Arts at Winnipeg. He pastored a new congregation in Lethbridge, Alberta, during 1963-65, and an inner-city congregation in Toronto in 1971-73.

Guenther was born in Manitoba and received his ThB from the Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg., his BA from the University of British Columbia, an MA in New Testament from Wheaton Graduate School of Theology, an MDiv from Gordon-Conwell Divinity School, an MA in Near Eastern Studies from the University of Toronto, and in 1978 his PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Literature from the University of Toronto. He was a member of the Institute for Biblical Research, the Evangelical Theological Society, and the Society of Biblical Literature.

Guenther ministered to society at large in his voluntter work as a mediator between victims and offenders in the lcoal reconcilation program (VORP) and in his service as founder and president of the Valley Parkinson's Support Group. He nurtured the life of the church in his many local church ministries and extensive writing in church publications. Internationally, Guenther has presented seminars at churches in Tulpengassse, Vienna, and Kiev, Ukraine.

Allen and Anne Guenther are active members of the Butler Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church in Fresno. They are the parents of three adult sons.
