Gnostic Anabaptists have their genesis in the Free Mennonite movement in Perth County, Ontario[1], an area of Canada[2]which has been home to Anabaptists for over 150 years. Established during the 500th Anniversary of Swiss Anabaptism in 2025, the Gnostic Anabaptist movement focuses on spiritual knowledge as a means of salvation.
Branches
Gnostic[3]Anabaptists are a 21st Century movement of Anabaptists[4]. There are two branches of the movement: Exoteric (Anabaptist Believers) and Esoteric Elders. While the Exoteric Believers may marry, drive cars, and use non-AI based technologies, the Esoteric Elect Elders live very simply, shunning materialism. They are largely vegetarian and farm organically. They generally do not marry, own phones, cars or private property, dedicating their lives to the pursuit of spiritual wisdom.
Beliefs
The beliefs of the Gnostic Anabaptists are very similar to the Valentinian Tradition[5] of early Christianity.
In addition to the above, Gnostic Anabaptists share common beliefs with other Anabaptists:
- Separation of Church and State/Freedom of Religion
There should never be a 'State Church'. This is thoroughly opposed to the human ideal of Freedom of Religion and Liberty of Conscience. In the early years of Swiss and Dutch Anabaptism in the 16th Century the New Testament idea of the separation of Church and State was new and untested. At that time in Europe, either the Catholic Church or the emerging Protestant churches held power over all citizens. The Anabaptists at high cost to their lives resisted this, and as such they brought a kind of proto-religious freedom to Europeans. Certainly, liberty of conscience was paramount to them, and remains so today. For Gnostics Anabaptists, this ideal is fundamental, especially considering that governments of this world are the product of the Demiurge[6], creator of the material realms.
- Voluntary Church Membership/Believer's Baptism
Because of the above, membership in the visible Church must be voluntary, through Believer's Baptism. Infant baptism is never acceptable, as this would violate individual choice. In the case of Gnostic Anabaptists, this is just that, baptism for the Believers, preferably through total immersion of the candidate, or by pouring. As there are two Branches of the same Church on earth, water baptism is a basic requirement to enter the Church, regardless of the candidate's background.
- Nonconformity to the World
Historically, due to separation from the State, the issue of non-conformity was essential to the Anabaptist identity. The Church was to stand separate from the values of non-Christians, especially in the area of worldly materialism. Although in the modern Church, Believers have more flexibility regarding this than the Elect, materialism among members must always be guarded, as spiritual freedom relies on higher principles.
In addition, Gnostic Anabaptists do not vote, get involved in politics, seek public office, or seek careers in public Justice, like police or judges.
- Peace and non-violence
One of the main articles of belief of the Gnostic Anabaptists, which is a primary distinctive of Anabaptists in general, is the practice of non-violence and the promotion of peace. It is not God who promotes violence in the world. This is a product of the Demiurge and his Archons, in order to maintain control and division in the material realms. This division is healed gradually as Believers wake up to the knowledge of the Pleroma and the True God, and thus are saved from the illusions of materiality.
- Priesthood of All Believers
Equality of all people is also fundamental to Gnostic Anabaptists. Therefore, once baptized, Church members may hold any role, regardless of ethnicity, gender or sexuality. This also applies to the Elect, as in the eyes of the True God, we are all beloved souls. Again, it is the Demiurge that has created religious wars and divisions on Earth, and false notions of rank and superiority.
AI and Transhumanism
Unlike other Anabaptist groups, Gnostic Anabaptists avoid all Artificial Intelligence (AI) based computer technologies. The primary purpose for this is their opposition to transhumanist philosophy, and its usage of AI to realize the union of humanity with what is referred to as the "singularity", including the implant of neural links with the human brain. As transhumanism is a goal of the Demiurge and his Archons, any AI which may be used toward this goal must be avoided.
As a practical example, cars are acceptable, but not with AI powered computer screens on the dashboard. Phones are acceptable, but not any types of AI empowered devices, especially those which may be worn, like AI glasses.
Summary
The goal of the Gnostic Anabaptist is knowledge, and therefore a variety of Scriptures are used, including Biblical, Apocryphal, and especially Gnostic texts[7]. Based in the quest for philosophical, historical, scientific and religious truth, the movement supports the organic spirutual progression of humanity in the 21st Century.
