Gnostic Anabaptists have their genesis in the Free Mennonite movement in Perth County, Ontario, an area of Canada which has been home to Anabaptists for over 150 years. Established during the 500th Anniversary of Swiss Anabaptism in 2025, the Gnostic Anabaptist movement focuses on spiritual knowledge as a means of salvation.

Unlike other Anabaptist groups, Gnostic Anabaptists avoid all Artificial Intelligence (AI) based computer technologies. The primary purpose for this is their opposition to transhumanist philosophy, and its usage of AI to realize the union of humanity with what is referred to as the "singularity", including the implant of neural links with the human brain.

As a practical example, cars are acceptable, but not with AI powered computer screens on the dashboard. Phones are acceptable, but not any types of AI empowered devices, especially those which may be worn, like AI glasses.

Gnostic Anabaptists are a 21st Century movement of Anabaptists. There are two branches of the movement: Exoteric(Anabaptist Believers) and Esoteric Elders. While the Exoteric Believers may marry, drive cars, and use non-AI based technologies, the Esoteric Elect Elders live very simply, shunning materialism. They are largely vegetarian and farm organically. They generally do not marry, own phones, cars or private property, dedicating their lives to the pursuit of spiritual wisdom.

The goal of the Gnostic Anabaptist is knowledge, and therefore a variety of Scriptures are used, including Biblical, Apocryphal, and especially Gnostic texts. Based in the quest for philosophical, historical, scientific and spiritual truth, the movement supports the organic progression of humanity in the 21st Century.
