Belize is a small Central American country located on the Caribbean Sea, bordered by Guatemala and Mexico. The country has an area of 22,966 square kilometers and a population (July 2009) of 307,899. As a former British colony Belize's official language is English, but a large majority of the population speaks Spanish, Creole, or various Mayan dialects.[2]
