It also has a strong presence of indigenous groups which have had great political impact in the past years. The current president is Rafael Correa whose attempt is to construct a "citizen´s revolution." Under Correa a new constitution emerged in which different parts of civil society participated and ellaborated a document that incorporates, for the first time in history, the "rights of Nature," or Pachamama.
