The Brethren in Christ began work in Cuba in a 1953 mission initiative. Missionaries established various witness points by using methods such as teaching English, home visitation, home Bible studies, and radio broadcasting. The 1959 revolution forced all the missionaries to leave the country. The churches remained, and in recent years many other congregations have affiliated with the BIC, at least in part because of legal registration issues. The church is a member of MWC. There are 2,000 members and 80 congregations.
